Here’s the latest. When I called this morning to get my daily update, a very kind gentleman volunteering at the Sacramento Red Cross said, “Well, I’ve got a bulletin I’m supposed to read to you: ‘Due to Hurricane Rita, which we are expecting to be another catastrophic event that will lead to severe hardship conditions for our volunteers, we ask that you get plenty of rest and be ready to go when you are called. All deployments are on hold until Rita passes through.’ So please be patient, but please take care of yourself, and your call will come.”

Nothing new, but this is the first time there has been an actual statement for all of us. I’m better resigned to waiting now, although my heart is in my throat watching that category 5 hurricane hurtle towards Texas. It’s almost beyond belief that two storms of this magnitude are going to hit in the same month.
